Dear Act4Education Member:

Our first event at the Geffen Playhouse on February 12th was a resounding success. Thanks to turn out by over 350 parents and community members it is clear to the School Board, LAUSD, the mayor's office, principals and teachers of our schools that our community is interested and engaged in excellence in public education.
We are building on that momentum currently:

1. Our power is in our numbers! Since we have opened our website we have had over 5,000 hits, with almost 1,000 community members enrolling. Our goal is to build our database to 2,000 members by May 1st.

On April 15th, we will sponsor "Act4Education Sunday." On this day, volunteers will go out into their communities to increase our membership. Increased membership ensures that we are able to drive the necessary transformation to improve our local middle schools and high schools. Let us know if you want to volunteer for this event.

2. The Principal search. We continue to meet with community stakeholders and educators to identify the best candidates for Emerson's next principal. The principal search process will formally begin in July, 2007.

3. Strategies for change. We are meeting with Emerson and Webster leadership and parents to identify ways in which we can jump start the transformation so desperately needed in our schools, today.

Stay tuned for ways in which you can participate!

4. Your questions answered. We received many questions during our February 12th meeting at the Geffen Playhouse. Please go to our website if you are interested in reviewing our answers.

Regards,
